Greenman Pet Services

San Jose, CA 95120

(408) 455-3292

Following are some excerpts from their website:
Greenman Pet Services is a licensed and insured pet services company based in the Almaden Valley of San Jose. We are dedicated to the health, safety, and happiness of companion animals of all kinds. We love the joy that animals bring to our lives, and know others do too.

..

Whether you’re looking for someone to provide pet sitting while you’re away, someone to give them a potty break and a little more exercise during the day while you’re at work, or some help keeping up with vet visits, we would love to help you give your non-human family members the excellent quality of life you want for them.

We are available to help care for any pets: dogs, cats, birds (from a flock in aviary to socialized companion parrots), rodents, reptiles, fish, and beyond – and we’d love to meet your family!

The following was published in the San Jose Mercury on June 9th:

Michael North, co-owner of the Britannia Arms on Almaden Expressway, has the kind of problem every restaurateur dreams about.

His establishment has a legal capacity of 220 patrons. Yet more than a month before Saturday’s World Cup clash between England and the United States, 200 people had called to reserve seats for the 11:30 a.m. match from South Africa.

To that end, North has added seats on the patio, scheduled extra staff, set a limited menu and installed an extra television — bringing the Brit’s total to 24 screens.

“We will try to accommodate everyone who wants to watch while following the guidelines set by the fire marshal,” said North, an Englishman who has U.S. citizenship. “I told everyone to be in your seat by 11, or the reservation is void.”

Like many restaurants, pubs and bars that cater to sports fans, the Almaden Brit expects brisk business throughout the World Cup.

North will sell U.S. and England T-shirts on Saturday and plans to give away raffle tickets throughout the monthlong event.

The prize: a soccer shirt signed by Pele.

The San Jose Mercury article by Jon Wilner also includes a list and map showing establishments recommended for soccer-viewing in other parts of the Bay Area (along with their national team allegiances!).

While it may be a bit late for World Cup viewing with only the final left tomorrow, but there will be other sports events and other World Cups in the future!

Lord of the LightArt Studio — otherwise known as “Mrs. Fujii’s”

5945 Almaden Expressway
San Jose, CA 95120

(408) 997-3112

Run by Mimi Fujii and her husband Mike, this school has an outstanding reputation teaching both children and adults alike with a method that Mrs. Fujii has developed herself.  The atmosphere is calm, respectful, and non-competitive, prices and hours are reasonable, the location is very accessible.

Mimi and Mike are Almaden residents, and this business has developed from simple week-long summer programs  run from a home studio, to a larger home studio year round, and finally to this location, an inspiring success story.

Almaden is a very family-oriented community.  Many people  move here precisely because the schools are considered to be the best in the San Jose Unified school district and education is a priority for many families.  Not surprisingly, businesses providing tutoring, test preparation, and various other supplemental classes and academic services have been springing up.   Here are some (and this list will be added to if more information is received, private tutors are welcome to add their information in comments):

Learn CPR with Safety Outreach Specialists

Safety Outreach Specialists is a family owned business with its roots here in Almaden.  Susan is an RN and an instructor at West Valley College.  Jason is a Water Safety Instructor for the Red Cross, a well known swim instructor in Almaden and the Aquatics Director at the Almaden Country Club.  Our backgrounds made it a natural progression to teach Health and Safety for the American Heart Association in our community.

We were inspired by the statistics recently released by the AHA regarding the survival rates for victims of Heart Attacks.  Almost 80% of all heart attacks are witnessed by a family member or friend. The chance of survival doubles if the witness is trained in CPR.

Therefore, our goal is to offer an affordable, easily accessible and fun option for CPR/AED training and to work with our community to increase the rate of survival by increasing the number of people that can effectively perform CPR and utilize an AED (automatic external defibrillator). Our second goal is to increase the number of defibrillators available for those trained individuals here in Almaden. Besides personally encouraging all Almaden Businesses, large and small, to train their employees; we also would like them to band together and purchase an AED for their complex or office building.  In the future, we want Almaden to be the safest place to live, work and play.  We are pleading with all coaches, team parents and recreation leaders to join our campaign and learn the basics of CPR.  We want all Churches, Community Organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools and Libraries to also heed our call.

We want to make a difference by preparing our community one group at a time. Won’t you join us?
