Almaden Lake Closed to all Water Activity Due to Algae Bloom
According to the City of San Jose website on July 26, 2010:

Almaden Lake is now closed to all water activity due to blue-green algae bloom; the Lake will remain closed until the bloom dissipates. The algae, identified as Cyanobacteria, can be harmful to humans, especially small children. The bloom can occur in fresh water in late summer after a warm spell of weather. Park staff will continue monitoring and testing the Lake waters as we allow the bloom to subside.

Unfortunately, it seems like the lake closes every year for one reason or another.
